Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth generally develop in late adolescence. Located behind the second molars, they are the last teeth to erupt. If there is not enough space, wisdom teeth can become partially or completely impacted. This means they may need to be removed to prevent further complications. Your dentist will assess the position of your wisdom teeth and help you make an informed decision.

Complications from partially or completely impacted wisdom teeth:

  • Infection of adjoining teeth
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Cavities, abscesses or cysts
  • Displacement of adjoining teeth

Contact us right away if you experience pain or have difficulty opening and closing your mouth. Your dentist will let you know if you need to have your wisdom teeth extracted.
